He is a man of the future yet he is already walking among us. He is manipulating his genes, is equipped with bionic limbs and grows his organs in the lab: this is Man 2.0, the multi-ethnic and multicultural result of today’s science.

For 4.5 billion years mutation, gene flow and natural selection have driven the evolutionary process and forged life on earth. Today cultural evolution is taking over changing how we live, how we think and how we die. For the first time in history humankind has the knowledge and the tools to intervene directly in its own evolutionary process. From a biologically point of view we are very similar to a man of 3.000 years ago, yet our biology works differently starting from our very genomes.

The future is already present thanks to the latest advances in genetic mapping, that not only allow us to ‘repair’ our defective parts but also to improve our genes. Artificial hearts are beating in our breasts and nanotechnology is working at small machines to incorporate into our organic components, thus creating a man-machine hybrid. This is the last frontier of robotics applied to the human body and some already think that human evolution is no longer linked to biological factors but to technological ones. Scientific evidence shows that digital natives’ brains are different leading to a brand new generation with neural connections shaped by digital technology. The six part documentary series investigates the growing role of science in shaping human life.

We meet the most prominent scientists, anthropologists and futurologists of Europe and the rest of the world to explore the state of the art of the human species: from a genetically modified homo sapiens to homo technologicus and digitalis.

The series explores past and present scenarios and looks at the future, tracing the journey that mankind is making to modify human minds and bodies, as well as the lenght and quality of our lives. This is altogether turning us into a new species: Man 2.0.
